I’m gearing up for the last 15, YES 15, days left of the school year! Where has the year gone?? I don’t know about you, but the first half really dragged on for me but the second half has just shot by!
I want to keep my kidlets working hard though… I find this keeps their behaviour under check. So I’m making up some math activities to review some things we’ve learned this year. We actually did my Gingerbread Man Activities last week, but I didn’t really take any photos because while they were quietly (and they sure were!) working, I was pulling kids to do some final running records (arrghh, the bane of my existence!).
Anyway, since I love you all I’ll give you a new math centre each day this week.

I sure do love comments so please leave one if you’re feeling the love!
(and yes, for those who’ve asked me before, I did spell ‘behavior’ with a /u/ and ‘center’ with an /re/ but that’s how we spell it here in Australia!).

I have to keep reminding people I’m from Australia and we spell things differently too! I know how to spell! Lol! Love your generousity Kylie! Thanks!

Well done Kylie, we have an extra week at school in NSW, really hard for a former QLDer used to finishing 2 weeks before xmas. BTW I love doing running records (I am a little twisted that way), I may be a frustrated Reading Recovery teacher.

My pleasure Shannon! I find that I’m starting to automatically write the American spelling, which isn’t good when I’m doing modelled writing at school!
I wish I loved doing them Tania, it would make doing them a more pleasant experience! I just get tired of doing the same books term after term, year after year. I don’t mind the informal ones, but the end-of-term benchmarking bugs me because I have to stop reading groups for 2 weeks just to find time to fit them in! Ok, I better stop now, I could go on forever about how much I dislike them! 🙂
Benchmarking!!! 3 more formal records to go…we have 2 kits that we have to rotate through. The red kit is for the end of Semester 1, and the blue for the end of Semester 2. And for the first time our results are being logged into OneSchool. Thanks for the Number Elves – they will be super useful for my last week Christmas rotates…J
The 2 kits sounds like a good idea, at least you get a break from the same books each semester! How are you finding OneSchool?
Because we have been ‘strongly encouraged’ to use OneSchool, it does grow on you. We have to mark our roll electronically each morning and afternoon and that took a bit of getting use to. And then you have to go back into OneSchool after 24 hours to make any corrections (eg changing A to I for illness). Downside is when there is a relief teacher as they can’t access the roll. Report card writing was fairly easy, just constantly clicking away on the ‘set’ comments. This semester (like right now!) we have to enter PM levels, WTW levels, and behaviour levels. Our school is changing the individual portfolio system that was in place, whereby each year certain work samples went with each child to the new teacher. Now all we send on is one writing sample. And all the rest of their data is on OneSchool. Fingers crossed the system never crashes….
I purchased your Gingerbread Unit in the TpT sale. Looking forward to using it with my beautiful grade. Have no idea what 2013 will bring.
School doesn’t finish in Victoria until 21 December. By then, Santa will just be coming down the chimney!
Thank you for these activities. I have a composite 1/2 so it’s great to find some Christmassy things for the Year2s.
Yeah those set comments! I felt like a robot typing in code after code! We also enter all of our data into OneSchool, like you, we are phasing out our portfolio system. This Friday, we’re discussing what we will send to the next teacher – many are still wanting a hardcopy sight word list, running record so they can see the miscues, a writing sample and a number sample – so basically everything. Our deputy mentioned that we could scan the documents into OneSchool…. I hope that doesn’t get the green light because it’ll take more time to scan them then to just send them up to the teacher! The system itself is growing on me too.
I hope you find out soon what’s happening next year. Are you on contract or do you just not know what year your teaching? December 21st is soooo late! There’s no time to unwind before Christmas. I feel for you!
I hope your kids enjoy the gingerbread activities!
